Officers reported they were contacted by a individual who found a vehicle in Hanau marked with red-colored liquid

Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.

Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.

The fluid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Officers then discovered numerous other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Officials state early analysis suggest the substance was most likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; officials are currently not informed of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.

City officials announced they were working "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the public for tips.

A high-ranking representative said the incident made him stunned and required to be addressed quickly.

"This event hits the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
